You finally got the hang of juggling GPTs and whatever other bot your boss told you to use. But instead of feeling like a productivity genius, you just feel completely exhausted. The Good news is, it’s not just you.

According to a new study from Boston Consulting Group and UC Riverside (highlighted by Axios and the Harvard Business Review), a very real phenomenon is sweeping the workplace. Researchers are officially calling it “AI brain fry.”

Out of nearly 1,500 full-time employees surveyed, 14% admitted to experiencing this specific brand of mental fatigue. What does it feel like? Think mental fog, difficulty concentrating, slower decision-making, and even physical headaches.

It happens when you interact with artificial intelligence tools way past your actual cognitive limit. The eager early adopters and overachievers who try to run multiple bots at the exact same time. Ironically, the software supposed to do the thinking for you is actually forcing your brain to work overtime.

This isn’t just your standard Tuesday burnout. AI brain fry has real office consequences. Workers with fried brains are making more careless mistakes, suffering from severe decision fatigue, and actively wanting to quit their jobs.

While these tools are great for handling boring, routine tasks, treating them like mandatory co-workers for every single project is backfiring. The fix is that employers need to stop forcing unnecessary technology on us, and you need to step away from the keyboard and give your brain a break from the bots.
